The Islamic Development Bank Participates in a Seminar in Navoi Dedicated to Private Sector Financing

Navoi, Uzbekistan — October 31, 2025.

A seminar-training dedicated to attracting direct financing from international financial institutions for local companies was held in Navoi. The event gathered representatives from leading international and regional financial organizations, including the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

The event was organized by the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade (MIIT) of the Republic of Uzbekistan and was chaired by Mr. Zafar Karimov, Deputy Director of the Department at MIIT. The purpose of the seminar was to strengthen cooperation between international financial institutions and Uzbekistan’s private sector, as well as to discuss mechanisms for expanding financing opportunities in the regions.

Mr. Khusan Khasanov, the Field Representative of the Islamic Development Bank in Uzbekistan, gave a presentation on the activities of the IsDB Group in the country. In his speech, he highlighted the active portfolio of the IsDB Group and the financial instruments provided to support private sector development through its entities — the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC). These mechanisms enable local enterprises to receive funding through participating joint-stock commercial banks.

The seminar brought together more than 100 participants from ministries, banks, government agencies, and representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises. They expressed strong interest in regional development and international cooperation, emphasizing the need to reduce financing criteria and costs to facilitate access to international resources for local businesses.

At the end of the event, delegates visited enterprises located in the Navoi Free Economic Zone, producing metal goods, carpets, and automobile parts.

The IsDB delegation once again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of the private sector and enhancing the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s industries.
